The Nevica Project

Victor Babu (1936 - 2019)
Victor Babu is celebrated for his finely crafted functional pottery, particularly his large, wheel-thrown platters and distinctive canisters. Working primarily in porcelain, he employs a variety of glazing techniques to enhance each form, treating the clay’s surface as a painter might a canvas. His richly decorated pieces often feature abstract or stylized imagery, drawing inspiration from both art history and his personal interests. Flora and fauna are recurring themes in his mature work, rendered in diverse and dynamic color palettes.

Beyond his studio practice, Babu played a pivotal role in shaping the Ceramics Department at the Kansas City Art Institute, helping establish it as one of the premier undergraduate ceramics programs in the United States in the latter half of the 20th century. His path as both an artist and educator was deeply influenced by his mentor, Ted Randall, during his time at Alfred University.
The Nevica Project is actively looking for ceramics by Victor Babu. If you have pieces and are interested in selling, please contact us. Also if you are searching for specific pieces, let us know so we can assist you.
