Susumu Kamijo
Susumu Kamijo (b. 1975) is from Nagano, Japan, and moved to the US at the age of 16. He attended college in the USA and received a BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Oregon in 2000, followed by an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Washington in 2002 (where he met and befriended Jonas Wood). Kamijo’s exploration in painting and drawing takes an abstract approach to familiar subjects such as animals and human faces, playing with forms and colors with a concise handling of media. Since 2014, he has been working on a series of colorful drawings depicting poodles.
Kamijo has had exhibitions at Stems, Brussels (BE), GNYP, Berlin (DE), Jack Hanley Gallery, (NY) Harper's Books, New York (NY), Marvin Gardens, Queens (NY), Bill Brady Gallery (Miami) and Masahiro Maki Gallery, Tokyo (JP). He is widely collected and in several private art collections around the world.
He currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
