Hours: Thursday – Saturday 11-5pm or by appointment
Location: 2011 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, MO, 64108
The two galleries have come together to feature their extensive roster of artists, both from the primary and secondary contemporary art markets. The gallery space was recently remodeled to have a salon-feel with numerous pieces on display- pottery, sculpture, jewelry, paintings, prints, and photography. The range of work is vast.
In the front of the gallery there are small ceramic works by Richard Tuttle, Sergei Isupov, Michael Lucero, Beth Cavener, and Paul Soldner. On the walls are two emerging NCECA artists Kyungmin Park and Bobbi Tso alongside a beautiful Richard Serra piece entitled Path and Edges, a large scale still life by renowned Canadian contemporary photographer Laura Letinsky and a wall piece by Theaster Gates, NCECA’s keynote speaker in 2014.
Leading into the back section of the gallery is a full display of rare Michael Simon pottery, Japanese pottery by Ryoji Koie, vessels by Steven Lee and even a painting by the late Stephen de Staebler.
The other half of the exhibition space is lined with wood shelving which displays an array of pottery by makers from around the world. Some of the potters include Paul Donnelly, Meredith Host, Chandra DeBuse, Mariko Paterson, Dan Anderson, Melanie Sherman, Justin Rothshank, Stephanie Kantor, Erica Iman, Jeff Shapiro, Akira Satake, Alex Watson, Ben Bates, David Bolton, Mariko Paterson, Sunshine Cobb, Jessica Brandl, Blair Clemo, Amy Santoferraro, Joanna Powell, Jamie Bates Sloan, Marco Rosichelli, Brice Dyer and Brandon Schnur, as well as some wonderful and intricate jewelry by Cydney Ross and Jennifer Wilkinson. The walls are masterfully covered with large scale Greg Miller paintings. Miller’s abstracted backgrounds of drips, patterns, and phrases and the peeling back of layers provide a study in the impermanence of the things that surround us and wonderfully complement the ceramics exhibit. And yes, to make the venue stand out even more- you can see work by legends Akio Takamori, Josef Albers and Ken Price.
